Installation

9. Who should install my multi-room audio system?

No matter what they might tell you, don't be tempted to use an electrician. Multi-room audio is definitely a job for the experts.

A whole-home installation involves a number of niche skills:

1: Recommending the right electronics and cabling
2: Planning and organising a multi-room system
3: Prewiring home (not necessary for a wireless installation)
4: Programming of keypads and remotes
5: Testing, troubleshooting and resolving any customer problems

It might look like a simple list, but it covers a vast pool of knowledge and expertise. You'll need both Entertainment Specialists and an Entertainment Technician you can count on to pull the whole process off properly.

It's best if your products are purchased from and installed by the same company rather than from two or more separate companies. It could save you loads of headaches down the track.

Why work with a single company?
Working with one team means that if anything goes wrong you only have one person to deal with, not several. When faced with a problem it only takes one independent contractor to dive for cover and you're left in the lurch. And if contractors can't agree who's responsible for what, you'll have to dispute it through the courts or cough up more cash to have it done again.

It can get quite ugly and be difficult to prove who should be paying for what. If you're only dealing with one reputable installation company you'll be covered in any event.

Which team should I work with?
Remember, your multi-room system could be as much a part of your home as the walls and floorboards, so be sure to choose an installer you can turn to both now and in years to come.
