Tracking and angle

3. Tracking and angle

Action sequences

As a general rule, plasma TVs handle fast paced action sequences better than LCD. That's because they tend to have better response times. With an LCD screen, some viewers report jagged, chunky edging on objects (particularly fast moving) and staggered frame rates. This phenomenon can be significantly reduced through the use of an HDTV signal or displaying through HD capable devices. And a high-end LCD might still dominate a low-end Plasma in this area.

Verdict: Like-for-like, plasma wins.

Viewing angle

Just where in the room everyone is sitting, lying, standing or crouching to watch the big game tends to be less of an issue with plasmas. Generally speaking, they have a wider viewing angle which means you can be sitting further off to the side and still view the picture clearly. Some high-end LCDs are claiming they've matched plasmas viewing angle. However, out of the lab in 'real-world' viewing conditions, some people challenge this.

Verdict: The best answer? With mixed reports coming in, you may just need to judge this point for yourself.
